Volunteer

At Sherwood Forest, we couldn’t accomplish our mission without the help of our dedicated volunteers. There are countless opportunities to get involved – from helping out in the office to assisting with construction projects during volunteer trades weekend, we have a volunteer position for everyone.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

2026 Volunteer Trades Weekend

Each spring, Sherwood Forest hosts Volunteer Trades Weekend at our 478-acre camp in Lesterville, Missouri. Skilled tradespeople donate their time and talents to complete much-needed improvements that make camp better for the kids who spend their summers here. Throughout the weekend, Sherwood provides volunteers with home-cooked meals, on-site lodging, and plenty of camaraderie.

Now more than a decade old, the event has led to more than 75 completed projects, including new electrical panels, window replacements, rewiring, roof replacements, new electrical feeds, and more.

Planned projects for 2026 are:

Building cabin storage cubbies
Interior redesign of Stargazer cabins
Remodel bathrooms
Epoxy bathroom floors
Metal roof for archery shelter
Paint pool

Meet a few of our current volunteers, and learn why they lend their time and talents to Sherwood Forest:

Volunteering at Sherwood Forest was the highlight of my summer. I got to re-live summer camp and experience it with an absolutely amazing group of people. The counselors are always enthusiastic and creative during their sessions which made the experience even better. I had the chance to meet campers and bond with girls who showed me how to make the most of any experience I have. I am truly thankful that I was able to experience this camp.

Summer Camp Volunteer

Sherwood Forest volunteers are a compassionate and caring group of people who are willing to go the extra mile to make a difference in the life of children and as they grow into a young adults. Over the six years I’ve been involved it’s also been rewarding to me to hear the story of some of the volunteers that were actual campers themselves years ago giving back to the camp that helped them become who they are today.
