Last week, Sherwood Forest concluded its final session of summer camp for 2025. Throughout those 4 weeks, Leadership campers returned to their roots at camp, spent idyllic days canoeing on Buder lake, spent quiet nights fireside with cabinmates under the stars, and explored where their interests took them. This year’s play was Shrek, which was memorable for many and left everyone in stiches. Many flexed outdoor skilled years in the making by embarking on extensive outdoor trips on the river and overnight camping in the valley. Outside of camp, our 9th grade Journey campers traveled to Columbia, MO where they visited the Mizzou campus, as well as UMSL here in St. Louis, and volunteered their time at St. Louis urban teaching farm, Growing Food, Growing People. A group of our counselors-in-training also took a trip to Chicago to explore the city and expand their cultural horizons with our Supports for Success staff.

This summer camp season was full of laughs and reconnecting. We indulged our silly side with themed days such as Water Balloon Day, Tutu Tuesday, and Day of the Cowboy. We shone a spotlight on all the many skills among campers and staff at the talent show and put our endurance to the test at the Great Camp Race. Summer at Sherwood Forest is something staff and campers look forward to all year long and it certainly lived up to the hype. Now that summer has come to a close, we won’t say goodbye for long as our Continued Contact programming will provide more opportunities for our campers to stay connected throughout the school year. For all those who have supported Sherwood Forest, whether monetarily, with the gift of your time, or by spreading the word of our mission in the community, thank you for helping make it possible for us to provide this incredible experience to St. Louis youth for which it means so much. We hope you had as amazing a summer as we did.
